Why I Love My On-Campus Job

When I say that work is one of my favorite parts of Auburn, people think I’m crazy.

The average Auburn student completes 15 credit hours per semester. This means loading up on anywhere from 45-53 hours of school work per week. With barely enough time to call our parents, why do we choose to work on campus, and what makes us love it so much? Auburn student employees are here to tell you.

“I love seeing all of the friendly faces of Auburn and making people smile when they walk through our doors. No matter how long or busy my day has been, coming to work always brightens it up.” — Tess Roberts, Auburn Campus Recreation Membership

“I’ve loved serving as a supplemental instruction leader because of the peer and faculty connections I’ve made. I’ve gotten to help underclassmen develop their academic skills while developing my own facilitation skills. The connections I’ve made with my departments have made applying for graduate school much less stressful. Plus, working on campus is just another way to get connected at Auburn. The connections we make inspire the memories we cherish from our time here!” — Alex Williams, Supplemental Instruction

“Working at the bookstore is a great job and gives me a ton of real-world experience. My schedule is extremely flexible due to classes and it’s convenient since it’s in the heart of campus. The work environment is phenomenal, and I enjoy getting to interact with the Auburn community. The extra bit of spending money is an added bonus, too.” — Jackson Thornton, Auburn University Campus Bookstore

“I love my campus job because I like being in touch with the students and meeting new people every day. It’s a great way to see more of the Auburn community. Working on campus is also great because I get weekends and holidays off. It’s a pretty good added bonus!” — Ansley Russel, Foy Commons Dining Cashier

“Having the privilege to be a personal trainer with Campus Recreation has by far been the best part of my Auburn experience. I love getting to connect with students and faculty to help improve their wellbeing. I am beyond thankful for my supervisors and coworkers who make The Rec feel like home.” — Avery Iven, Auburn Campus Recreation Personal Training

Working on campus has given me a sense of community and belonging that has transformed my Auburn story. It has given me friendships, mentorship, networking, and real-world skills that are unbeatable. I could tell you every reason why I love my on campus job, but I’m almost positive we’d be here all day. Until next time…

Be Well, Auburn.

Originally from Nashville, Jordan came down to Auburn to enjoy the beauty of The Plains and to learn the true meaning of War Eagle (which she still does not know). She’s currently a sophomore studying spanish international trade, and has passions ranging from marketing to health and fashion.

Jordan enjoys weightlifting, a good podcast, and will never turn down a hike with her friends. Her favorite way to start the day is with a workout, nutritious breakfast, and cup of iced coffee. She loves living a fast-paced life, and hopes to reside in a big city after her time at Auburn (dogs included). She’s eager for the future, but for now, is enjoying living in the moment.
