Spending Spring Break in Auburn
The week of relaxation we have all been looking forward to is almost here: spring break.
Many of us are packing our bags, preparing to head down south for sun and sand. Some of us are heading home for the break, ready to visit with family and friends. And the rest of us are here, spending our break in the big “AU.”
Staying in Aubs might not be ideal for some, but you don’t have to travel anywhere to have a fun time. Auburn is overflowing with cool finds; you just have to know where to look. Here are five things you should do in Auburn to make the most of your break at your home away from home!
Go to All the Local Thrift Stores.
Thrifting is my absolute favorite pastime. If you haven’t hit up any thrift stores in town yet, spring break is the time to start! Thrifting is an excellent way to find timeless and unique pieces for a great price. If you aren’t looking for clothes, check out the furniture for fun DIY projects! Ready to find a store? Just type in “Auburn thrift stores” to Google, and a list of local thrift and consignment shops should appear.
Spend a Day Doing All “Auburn” Things.
Okay, it may sound cliché, but doing Auburn-y things over Spring Break is so much fun. A ton of students will be gone, which means the usually packed hangout spots won’t be as crowded. Put up a hammock or have a picnic on Samford Lawn, and just enjoy the day. Don’t forget to bring your Toomer’s lemonade or snap a pic by the War Eagle Wall!
Make the Most of the Parks Around Town.
The weather will (hopefully) be nice, which means you should be outside as much as you can! There are a few AUsome parks and preserves around town that are great for a day of exploring. Hike, bike, or take a dip at the popular Chewacla State Park, or hang up a hammock and grab a good book to spend the day at the more secluded Town Creek Park. Check out our other favorite outdoor escapes here.
Volunteer and Make a Difference.
Spending spare time to help others is always a rewarding option. In Auburn, there are a ton of volunteer opportunities. If you like animals, the Lee County Humane Society needs daily volunteers. All you have to do is apply and attend an orientation. Other local volunteer options include the East Alabama Food Bank, the East Alabama Medical Center and the Louise Kreher Forest Ecology Preserve.
Check Out the Local Coffee Shops.
Finally, make sure to visit the local coffee shops. If you don’t already have a favorite, now is the best time to find one! They won’t be packed with students, so take advantage of them! Make the most of your time by bringing a new book or getting ahead on a future assignment. Check out our favorites here!
