The New Iced Coffee
IMO, boba tea is the new iced coffee.
I’ve always known boba tea was a thing, but I really didn’t care for it. Next thing you know, it’s all I see on my TikTok For You Page. I decided to finally give in and give it a try.
The first thing I did was look up “boba tea in Auburn,” and suddenly, I’m in Tiger VR Café. Not only do I love their boba, but it is also a great study location. Something I love about Auburn is the variety we have to choose from — there will be two places to get boba downtown once Kung Fu Tea opens soon!
There are a ton of different flavors, which branch from the first decision of whether you want fruit or milk tea. On top of this, there are so many kinds of boba and jellies that you can choose to add.
I myself am a milk tea person; my personal favorite is honeydew (it sounds weird, but it’s really good). The best way to describe it is sweet, milky, and tastes basically like an iced coffee minus the caffeine.
My preference is to pair the milk tea with tapioca boba pearls, which is the classic boba, but my friends love to switch it up and try it with the different jellies. There is also iced fruit tea, which is exactly how it sounds. I find that the fruit tea can be more refreshing, and pairs well with pop boba.
One of my favorite things about boba is the number of combinations and the variety. Whether you like trying cool flavors like kumquat, black sesame, or taro, or playing it safe with strawberry, mango, or peach, there is an option for everyone. It is always fun to head there with my roommates, get different flavors, and then review them so each person knows what to try next time.
Today is a good day to try something new! Go grab some boba and…
Be well, Auburn.
