Twinning Tigers
The odds of being a twin is 1/250, so I think it is pretty neat that I get to claim the title.
National Twin Day was yesterday, so I thought it was the perfect time for me to write about being a twin! Growing up, I was frequently asked what it is like to have a twin. Here are a few of the things that I love about being a multiple, and some of the questions that I often get asked.
Do you like being a twin?
The short answer is yes, I do like being a twin. Then again, I have never lived any other way. I am sure that if we were siblings of different ages we would still get along, but there is something special about being a twin and growing up together.
All of your memorable life moments, from family vacations, to turning 16, to graduating high school are shared. As for my parents, they might not have enjoyed buying everything in double!
Do you like sharing a birthday?
In my opinion, this is a downfall to being a twin. Although sharing a birthday makes it easier for us to have a big party with all of our friends and family, I sometimes selfishly wish I had my own day to celebrate.
Being the oldest twin, I only had one minute to myself before my brother came and stole my spotlight. Nevertheless, it is sentimental when we are able to celebrate our special day together with the people we cherish most.
Do you guys get along?
Thankfully, we have always gotten along pretty well. Although I know this is not true for all twins, I think that growing up with the same group of friends, being in the same classes in school, and participating in similar extracurriculars has allowed us to grow closer to one another.
Additionally, my twin and I have very different personalities, and I think this is one of the reasons that we get along. I believe twins have a special bond, one different from normal siblings. We are twins by chance, but friends by choice.
All in all, I am thankful to be able to celebrate this holiday with my brother. I am extremely blessed to have a twin and a friend as great as him.
Be well, Auburn.
