The Benefits of Drinking Matcha

I know what you’re thinking. Isn’t matcha that green drink that tastes like grass?

I’m here to inform you of all the benefits of drinking matcha, and how you should order it to never be disappointed.

High in Antioxidants

In the past, I didn’t understand the benefits of drinking antioxidants or what antioxidants were. After some research, I’ve found that antioxidants help stabilize harmful compounds that can damage cells and cause chronic disease. Matcha is full of carchins, a class of plant compounds in tea that act as natural antioxidants.

Boosts Brain Function

Over the years, researchers have found that matcha causes improvement in attention, reaction time, and even memory. This may just be because of the caffeine in matcha, which brings me into my next point.

Caffeine in Matcha vs. Coffee

If you’re tired of the coffee crash and anxious jitters like me, let me introduce you to the caffeine in matcha. Matcha contains certain nutrients that help your body absorb the caffeine slowly. Because of this, matcha provides prolonged energy for about 4-6 hours— even though it contains less caffeine than coffee. In comparison, coffee has more caffeine, but it only lasts for about 1-3 hours because the coffee crash hits. Who doesn’t want extended energy to get you through your busy class schedule?

How to Order Matcha

Here’s how I order matcha and make sure its going to be just as enjoyable as coffee— but without the anxious jitters or coffee crash. First, I make sure the matcha at the coffee shop is presweetened. If not, it is best to add vanilla syrup or sugar to the latte and then your matcha is sure to impress.

Give matcha a chance and feel the benefits of caffeine that lasts. You’ll never go back to the coffee jitters again.
