Sunburn Remedies for Quick Relief

Sunburns happen to the best of us.

It is very easy to forget to reapply sunscreen or even underestimate the effect of the sun’s UV on certain days. A UV index measures the strength of the sun’s exposure. It is described through a numeric scale. 1-5 is lower, whereas 6-12 is extremely high. In the cases of higher UV numbers, utilizing SPF within a sunscreen of 30 or higher is recommended. However, for the days when this information slips our minds, I have some remedies to help you get rid of that unwanted burn.

Aloe

The most well-known way to reduce sunburn is aloe. Aloe is a plant that can be topically applied to the skin. It helps with treating skin injuries, like sunburn. Particles within the plant allow the skin to restore moisture that has been depleted from time in the sun. You can easily purchase a bottle of the gel-like substance at your local drugstore.

Lotion

Something similar to aloe that works just as effectively is lotion. Any type of body lotion is commonly utilized to treat dry skin. Lotion helps sunburns by easing the redness and locking in moisture with the help of important hydrating elements, such as emollients, occlusives, and humectants! You can purchase body lotion at your local grocery or drugstore.

After Sun Lotion

Wouldn’t it be awesome if someone invented a combination of aloe and lotion? Well, guess what? There is! It’s called After Sun Lotion! Its specific purpose is to replenish, soothe, and hydrate the skin with moisture. Brands that offer this product include Banana Boat and Sun Bum which can be found in places where aloe and lotion are typically located.

Hydration

Lastly, the easiest way to cure external burns is through hydration. Drink lots of water to restore what you lost while having fun in the sun. This will help to rehydrate the body and your skin.

Do not forget to apply these remedies to areas like your scalp, feet, and lips too! The damage from the sun can sometimes be irreversible. Sunburns can also increase your risk of skin cancer according to Dr. Robert P. Olsen of Orlando Health. But, they can be aided by the remedies listed above. Each of these is easily under $10 too!

Remember these products in case of a burn, and…
