If the Shoe Fits: Everyday Tennis Shoe Recommendations

When coming to college, I didn’t realize just how many pairs of tennis shoes I would burn through.

Because I wear my tennis shoes practically every day, I have to buy a new pair every year— sometimes even sooner due to worn-down soles or holes at the toe. As someone who has tried many different brands of tennis shoes over the last four years in college, I feel the need to share my thoughts on shoes that are— or aren’t worth your money.

New Balance

New Balances are a tried-and-true classic, the most popular of them being the 990’s (the classic dad shoes). While these are comfortable enough, they got boring very quickly. I also can’t recommend them as good exercising shoes because I wear a different pair to workout in. For a better and more versatile option from New Balance, I tried the Fresh Foams and had a much better experience.

On Cloud

If you haven’t heard of them, you must not be paying attention. On Clouds are literally everywhere in Auburn. I personally had not heard of them before coming to college, but I quickly hopped on the trend. This might be a hot take, but they just weren’t my favorite, for many reasons. I found them uncomfortable to walk around campus in and the shoe wore down too quickly. But don’t just take it from me – do your own research. I know many people that love On Clouds and wear them every day!

Brooks

While this shoe might go under the radar, it certainly should not be overlooked. As a durable, extra-cushioned tennis shoe, the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 22 is one of my all-time favorites! Out of all the tennis shoes listed in this blog, my Brooks were best suited for running, and they lasted a good while without wearing down.

Hoka

Last, but certainly not least, are my personal number one brand, Hoka. Starting with the major downside to any Hoka tennis shoes, they are not the cheapest option. I generally wait to ask for a new pair of Hokas for my birthday or as a Christmas gift. However, a pair of Hokas can be considered a great investment because they tend to last the longest for me. A huge pro for these shoes and my favorite thing about them is the cushiony, thick sole— it truly feels like you are walking on pillows. Additionally, I think that Hoka stays the most consistent across all of its brands. I currently wear the Clifton 9’s and love them!

As someone who has been through many a pair of tennis shoes in her time at college, I hope that my recommendations and opinions shed some light on your next shoe purchase. However, be sure to find what works for you and your everyday tennis shoe needs.
