The Inside Scoop on Auburn’s Best Ice Cream

What better treat to enjoy in the summer than ice cream?

In celebration of National Ice Cream Day coming up, I made it my mission to try a few ice cream shops in Auburn to find the best scoops in town. To make my decision, I ranked the ice cream shops on flavor selections, price, and overall taste.

4.  The Yard Milkshake bar

Known for its extravagant milkshakes, this ice cream shop is anything but ordinary. The vibes inside the shop are so cute and perfect for a good Instagram photo. Although The Yard is famous for the ‘shakes, they also serve plain scoops and edible cookie dough. I must give them credit for their milkshakes, but it is difficult to justify spending almost $20 for a dessert.

3.  Marble Slab

Technically, this shop is located in Opelika in Tiger Town, but it is too good not to get included. With a wide variety of ice creams and toppings to choose from, you can customize your ice cream to your liking. Personally, I love mix-ins and toppings to add texture, so this was right up my alley. I chose to get a small cup costing me $6.00, and it was the perfect size. I opted for sweet-cream ice cream with cookie dough and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. Overall, I would say that it is worth the drive out to Tiger Town!

2.  Insomnia Cookies

Coming in second place is Insomnia Cookies. So far, my favorite places have been shops that do not solely focus on ice cream! I'm a sucker for a warm cookie from Insomnia, but I had to branch out and try the ice cream. I got the cup with two scoops, and it was phenomenal. Insomnia offers ice cream sandwich cookies, and they also sell their ice cream by the pint. It was a bit pricey, at $5.20, but it was well worth it.

1.  The Auburn Popcorn Company

My overall favorite ice cream that I tried was from Auburn Popcorn Company. They serve Hershey’s ice cream in a wide variety of flavors, from “Old Fashioned Vanilla” to the decadent “Salty Caramel Truffle.” I chose to get a scoop of the “Lil’ Blue Panda” ice cream-- vanilla ice cream that has been colored blue with Oreo chunks and cookie dough pieces added in. It was creamy and delicious, and a single scoop only cost me $3.50. I will be back to visit. Overall, I give it a 10/10!

This was a yummy challenge, and I enjoyed trying out a few new places to cure my sweet tooth. I will be back for more! I hope you will celebrate National Ice Cream Day at one of The Plains’ many excellent ice cream shops.

Enjoy some ice cream and…
