Auburn Baseball Preview

Auburn finished the 2023-24 baseball season with a record of 27-26 and an SEC record of 8-22. This marked the worst conference record and the first time missing the conference tournament since Butch Thompson’s first year in 2016.

Auburn looks to turn the tide as it brings in one of the top classes in the transfer portal. Connor Gatwood and Christian Chatterton, two incoming freshmen pitchers, are both ranked in the top 70 in the class of 2024.

Series to Look Forward to At Plainsman

The SEC is always one of the top conferences, which allows Plainsman Park to have some exciting games to watch. The biggest series is obviously the Iron Bowl at home when Alabama comes to the Plains. However, LSU and Vanderbilt are also two must-see series at home. Auburn starts their season in Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas on February 28th facing Ohio State, Baylor, and Oregon State.

Impactful Players for The Season

One of Auburn’s biggest transfer portal pickups was Cade Fisher, a left-hander from Florida. Fisher is a 6’4 junior who had an impressive freshman season. Fisher had a down year last year but looks to get back on track with pitching coach Everett Teaford. During his freshman year, he clocked a record of 6-0 and an ERA of 3.10 with 49.1 innings thrown, earning himself a spot on the Freshman All-SEC team. However, the most impactful player returning to the Auburn Tigers is the junior catcher, Ike Irish. He played 105 games in his first two years at Auburn and hit 20 home runs with a career average of .343, so he is someone to look out for this year. Irish was First-Team All-SEC last year and was “Freshman of the Week” 3 times as well.

Auburn hopes to get its baseball program back on track and bring some tough competition in the SEC this year. With Butch Thompson bringing in 21 new players and the addition of new coaching staff, Auburn looks to compete for a spot in the SEC tournament and get into a regional playoff.

Be Well, Auburn.
