How to Spend Your Summer in Auburn

If you’ll be spending this summer in Auburn, this blog has you covered!

As someone who has spent every summer in Auburn since freshman year, I have learned how to make the most of your summer vacation on the Plains. Whether you are here taking classes, working, or just making the most of your lease, there is plenty to do that will make it a summer to remember!

Baseball Games

Nothing says summer like baseball! Visit Plainsman Park this weekend to cheer on the Tigers as they take on Ole Miss in a three-game series Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. And be sure to mark your calendars for May 16th-18th for the Iron Bowl of baseball, when Auburn takes on Alabama in a three-game series. Try the new outfield seating or bring some snacks and watch from the top floor of the parking deck.

Explore Opelika

Free time is often hard to come by during the semester, so making the trip to Opelika can feel like a journey. Take advantage of your summer vacation and explore everything Opelika has to offer. Downtown Opelika and Tiger Town are home to a variety of restaurants, shops, and entertainment options to choose from. From a nice dinner and live music at Botanic to a round of minigolf at Tiger Town Sports, there are lots of activities perfect for date nights, hangouts with friends, or solo adventures.

Take A Day Trip

In need of a fun getaway? Auburn’s proximity to places like Atlanta, Birmingham, or the beach allows for a quick day trip that won’t require a full day of driving, so grab some friends and hit the road! Don’t forget to stop at Auburn’s very own Buc-ee’s on your way out. And, for an even closer day trip, visit Waverly, Alabama: a hidden gem just 20 minutes from Auburn! For a full list of things to do in Waverly, read Erika’s blog here.

Get Outside

Take a break from class or work by heading outside and enjoying the beautiful weather. Soak in the sun by going for a walk at Kreher Preserve & Nature Center or visit Chewacla State Park for a hike and scenic waterfall view. Chewacla also offers mountain biking, camping, swimming, fishing, and more. Summer is also the perfect time to head to a local farmer’s market, have a picnic on Samford Lawn, or play some pickleball – it’s much easier to find an open court!

The Rec

Any student enrolled in classes over the summer maintains access to the Rec, so stop by for a workout, come to shoot some hoops, or beat the heat by taking a dip in the pool. Summer means fewer crowds, so use this time to try out a new machine or find your new workout partner.

With most students being away from Auburn for the summer, take advantage of this time to explore the Auburn-Opelika area without worrying about places being too crowded or busy. Head to the new restaurant you’ve wanted to try or visit downtown without driving around in circles searching for a parking space. However, you choose to spend your time here, enjoy the peacefulness that summertime in Auburn offers, and be sure to savor these moments.
