From Chocolate to Screen Time: What to Give Up For Lent

Lent is the 40 days before Easter that acts as preparation and allows for others to follow Christ’s example of love and sacrifice.

This year, Lent is from March 5th until the day before Easter, April 19th. The start of Lent is on Ash Wednesday and lasts 46 days adding the six Sundays from Ash Wednesday until Easter. For Lent, people tend to give up unhealthy habits, foods, or apps to challenge themselves to sacrifice something they really enjoy.

Food/Drinks to give up for Lent:

  • Chocolates

  • Candy

  • Soda

  • Caffeine

unhealthy habits to break during Lent:

  •  Eating out

  • Procrastination

  • Not getting enough sleep

  • Spending too much time on social media

In conclusion, giving up something for Lent is not just about the act of sacrifice, but about reflecting on what truly matters in our lives and deepening our connection to our faith and values. Whether it's a material possession, a habit, or a distraction, the act of letting go provides an opportunity for self-discipline and renewal. By choosing to give up something meaningful, we open ourselves to growth, a better understanding of our priorities, and a strengthened commitment to those we care about. Ultimately, Lent serves as a reminder of the power of self-reflection and the possibility for transformation during this season of renewal.
