Look Good, Feel Good: 9 Fall Fashion Trends for Under $70
I’m not usually big on trends. I try to stay away from fast fashion, buy from thrift stores, and get as much wear out of my clothes that I can. Occasionally, I splurge on something fun and on trend, especially during the season change.
Fall is one of my favorite seasons for fashion. The warm colors and classic patterns usually stay the same, but the form they come in is always changing. I’m not abandoning my thrifting ways — in fact, I’ve already got my basics from the thrift store: good jeans, neutral-colored mock necks and a few trusty coats. Now I’m looking for the statement pieces: fun patterns, pops of color and all the accessories. Here are nine of my favorite fall color, pattern, and fabric trends, and where to find a few splurge-worthy pieces for under $70.
Snakeskin
This trend wasn’t easy for me. I love the idea, but in the past, I’ve had a hard time bringing it into my everyday wardrobe. After finding these pieces, I realized how understated and fun snakeskin is. The pattern isn’t too busy, and the colors are neutral, leaving room for a bold-colored statement piece.
Plaid, Checks, and Gingham
Think ‘90s and anything Cher Horowitz would wear. The best thing about these patterns is their versatility. You can dress them up for a professional look, or down for an everyday casual vibe. They are pretty busy, so pair with solid colors for balance.
Corduroy
Corduroy is hands-down the most underrated fall fabric. It’s subtle but still makes a statement. The texture sends me straight to the ‘70s, and honestly I don’t want to come back!
Leopard and Cheetah Print
I know what you’re thinking. Leopard is loud. But when done right, it can immediately make whatever you’re wearing more interesting. Go big or go home with a leopard accent for every outfit.
Bold Reds
Okay, who am I kidding. Red is always in. But this fall, all reds are in. Not just burgundy. We want bright primary red as well.
Denim
If I could live in denim, I would. It’s rare for me to be without my denim jacket, and I’d rather wear jeans than leggings (don’t @ me). The best thing about denim is that it goes with literally EVERYTHING. It’s fun to customize — especially a basic denim jacket with pins and patches — and it’s something you can’t ever have too much of.
Leather
Leather is wonderful in all its forms. I truly want all the jackets, bags, and booties. It is a staple that will probably live in your closet for years to come, so it’s worth the splurge.
Mustard yellow
I thought the mustard yellow trend would come and go, but it looks like it’s here to stay. I’m not mad about it. It’s neutral enough to not be distracting, but bright enough to catch eyes. It’s warm and inviting and has survived this long, so it must be good.
Stripes
Stripes are a fall staple. The color combos are endless, and fall-inspired stripes with a pop of color give any look an edge. Don’t forget to add in your solids. Stripes and solids… name a better duo? I’ll wait.
