How to Plan a Leslie Knope-Level Galentine's Day
If you’re a fan of the hit comedy show “Parks & Rec,” then you know what Leslie Knope’s favorite holiday is—Galentine’s Day!
Well guess what? It’s my favorite holiday, too. As someone who never seems to have a significant other, but has a calendar absolutely packed with girls’ nights out, I love that we’ve consecrated February 13th as a day to celebrate amazing friendships between women. I cannot express how much I love this holiday, but I can give you some tips for how to make this year’s Galentine’s gathering the best one yet.
Waffles
If you know anything about Leslie Knope (fictional feminist icon and waffle connoisseur), you know that she loves any food with enough sugar. Waffles are the perfect way to pay homage to this amazing character and please everyone at your gathering, because who doesn’t love waffles? You can even have a whole waffle bar with various toppings (cool whip, sprinkles, M&M’s, Reese’s, the list goes on), and have each guest bring their own fun topping to share!
Compliments
One of the ways Leslie celebrates Galentine’s Day is by giving each of her gals a personalized 5,000-word essay about why they are amazing. Now, I’m not saying that this is necessary (or that any of us have time for this when we’re already writing 5,000-word essays for literature class), but you can always just go around the table and each say one nice thing or share one funny memory with another person. Be like Leslie and spread the love and the laughs.
Volunteering
There are plenty of ways to spread the love even further. Check out AUinvolve for opportunities and service groups on and around campus. Since Galentine’s Day falls on a Saturday this year, there will be lots of options to get involved and give back to your own community with all your favorite gals.
