How The Rec is Home to All Auburn Students

Monday is leg day, Wednesdays are for arms and Fridays you work your core.

You might be a regular at the 5 p.m. Zumba class on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Or maybe you’ve never even stepped foot into The Rec.

The Auburn Recreation and Wellness Center has so much to offer every student. Beyond the variety of classes and workout equipment, you may even find your new favorite study spot or activity here.

For the Social Butterfly: Game Room

Grab a friend and blow off some steam with a game of foosball or table tennis in the Game Room. Find this hidden gem behind the climbing wall on the Lower level. Or, grab a group of friends and hold your very own table tennis tournament. If you’re ready to take it up a notch, intramural sports might just be for you.

For the Competitor: Equipment Desk

If you need a piece of equipment, but aren’t ready to shell out the money for your own, then you’ll want to hit up the equipment desk. Located on the Heisman level, they have everything from futsal balls to Spikeball sets and squash rackets — completely free. Just present your TigerCard to check these items out, and return them before you leave.

For the Adventurous Spirit: Auburn Outdoors

Itching to get off campus and out into nature? Experience activities from paddling and biking to hiking and more through day-long, weekend and extended trips through Auburn Outdoors. And if you’re worried about not having any experience — don’t be! These trips are split up by experience level, and you will be accompanied by encouraging people along the way.

Maybe you’re more independent and choose to create your own adventure. You can rent tents, wetsuits, kayaks or even mountain bikes from Auburn Outdoors. Get the full list of equipment rental items and details here.

For the Book Worm: Study Spaces

With a busy schedule, you’re lucky to even make it to The Rec some days. If you have a break between classes and need to get your sweat and study on, check out the the high-top tables or comfy armchairs on the Lower level. You’ll often be joined by students that are personal trainers or group fit instructors, who are studying between their sessions.

For the Golf Pro: PGA Golf Simulator

If working on your swing is your thing, then it’s your lucky day. Enjoy a round of golf at The Rec’s PGA Golf Simulator for only $8. Located on the Lower level in a reserved space, this area creates a golfing environment that feels, looks and plays like the real thing.

For the Thrill-Seeker: Rock Climbing Wall

Stop by the climbing wall, located on the Lower level, any time it’s open to receive an orientation by a trained staff member. Or attend one of the Fundamentals of Climbing workshops, which are completely free, so that you can get climbing on your own in no time.  For climbing wall hours and workshop dates, visit the calendar.

Whatever your style, all students are sure to find their home at The Rec.

Be well, Auburn.

Born and raised in the D.C. Metro Area, Kyleigh followed her gut 750 miles away from home to Auburn, Alabama. Now a senior in public relations, she can confidently say it’s the best decision she has ever made. Passionate about health and wellness and interested in marketing, working at The Rec is the perfect fit for her.

Outside of The Rec, Kyleigh is working toward big goals, like visiting all 50 states before she’s 25 (12 to go, if you’re curious) and getting her registered yoga teacher certification. She has an insatiable appetite for adventure and loves to travel, learning about new cultures and herself in the process. When she’s not daydreaming about future trips, she can be found in yoga class, visiting the cows off Lem Morrison, or making sure her friends are fed. Kyleigh doesn’t exactly know what she wants to do when she graduates, but she knows it won’t be boring.
