2021 Vision

2020 wasn’t easy.

But if your year was anything like mine, it taught you a lot. To be quite honest, I probably learned more in 2020 than I have in any other year. The hardships of this past year have shaped all of us in ways we never could’ve prepared for. With the new year just around the corner, it’s time to use what we’ve learned to help make this year the best. Here is my 2021 vision.

Be realistic.

There’s always immense pressure surrounding the new year in terms of expectations and goals. Many of us are probably expecting things to turn around and be perfect once the clock strikes midnight. Unfortunately, that’s usually not the case. This year, I’m making an extra effort to be realistic about my goals and desires for the new year. Instead of relying on 2021 to be a quick fix, I’m using what I learned in 2020 to become the best version of myself. It might not be the new year for crazy resolutions, but it is the year to use your previous successes and failures to your advantage.

Keep things slow.

I know I’m not the only person who slowed down in 2020. As the year went on, my calendar lacked tasks and events. For once, I felt like I was able to take a deep breath, extra nap, or day off without feeling guilty. In a sense, I think it was for the better. Part of my 2021 vision is to keep things at that same pace. There’s no sense in trying to jump back into a crazy day-to-day routine. By slowing down in 2021, I know I’ll be showing up as the best version of myself in all that I do.

Let them know.

One of the best things that 2020 has taught me is to be grateful for the people that are in my life. Tomorrow isn’t always promised, but today I’m able to share how much I appreciate the people around me. This is something I know I’ll carry into the new year. Calling a friend or grandparent may be the highlight of their day. Reach out, send that text, and show them that you care.

Discover yourself.

I spent a lot of time with myself in 2020. I discovered new things that brightened my days and learned how to keep myself fulfilled. This journey to figuring out myself is just getting started. In 2021, I want to keep finding out who I am and what truly fills my cup. Hopefully, this new year will bring a bit more experience and adventure. Nonetheless, I want everything I do to get me one step closer to becoming my true self.

What lessons has 2020 taught you? How have your struggles made you grow, and how will you keep growing? How will you ensure that 2021 brings out the best in you? Think about these things and go create your 2021 vision.

Be well, Auburn.

Originally from Nashville, Jordan came down to Auburn to enjoy the beauty of The Plains and to learn the true meaning of War Eagle (which she still does not know). She’s currently a sophomore studying spanish international trade, and has passions ranging from marketing to health and fashion.

Jordan enjoys weightlifting, a good podcast, and will never turn down a hike with her friends. Her favorite way to start the day is with a workout, nutritious breakfast, and cup of iced coffee. She loves living a fast-paced life, and hopes to reside in a big city after her time at Auburn (dogs included). She’s eager for the future, but for now, is enjoying living in the moment.
