Don't Settle, Pedal!
We all want to get to class as quickly as possible and save some money… So why not ride a bike?
I discovered that bikes are the fastest (and easiest) way to get to classes, even that pesky 8 a.m. lecture. From me to you, here are a few reasons to grab a bike and get started!
Speed
Ever had one of those days that you were late to class and needed to get to campus as fast as you could? Wouldn’t you rather have 5 extra minutes of sleep than be walking as fast as you can to class? It’s time to switch to cycling. One of the perks of riding a bike to class is the time you save. Tiger Transit is a great resource (especially when it is raining or cold outside), but sometimes it can take more time than you would like. Biking is a great option to save time on those busy mornings.
Money Saver
Opting to ride a bike to campus can cut your monthly expenses. Instead of paying for gas or car maintenance, you’ll be cruising to class with money in your pocket. Another benefit is not having to buy parking passes, which can cost more than $100/year.
On-Campus Resource
Don’t worry, you don’t have to own your own bike. The university provides free resources for Auburn students so that we can all have access to easy transportation around campus.
The first option is through the War Eagle Bike Share program. All you need to do is to download the SoBi app, create an account, and then unlock and ride your bike. The first two hours each day are free, after that, you will be charged $5/hour.
Another alternative is to rent mountain bikes, road bikes, and touring bikes at Auburn Outdoors, located at (yours truly) the Recreation and Wellness Center, downstairs in the breezeway. If you have any problems with your bike, Auburn Outdoors has a variety of resources, tools, and expertise to help you repair your bike. And the best part is that they’ll help you for free! Super cool, right?
Easy Cardio
Biking to class is the perfect way to relax and get in some exercise. With our busy routines, it can be hard to set aside even 30 minutes to exercise every day. But guess what? Riding a bike to your lectures can solve this issue.
Environmentally Sound
Now, who doesn't love the environment? Riding a bike protects the environment by reducing harmful emissions and fuel usage. Opting to use your bicycle a few times a week instead of your car is one of the simplest ways to lower pollution. The more cars we can get off the road, the cleaner our air will be.
Now that you’ve seen the many benefits of biking, I have a question: are you ready to pedal?
Be well, Auburn
