Tips and Tricks for Spring Backpacking
Spring brings warm weather, spring break, and all sorts of outdoor activities. Spring backpacking produces all kinds of fun and so much flexibility. Here are a few tips and tricks I’ve gathered through the years to help you spend the spring outdoors.
Don’t forget to layer
Spring is unpredictable and can bring many kinds of weather. By making sure you have the right base layers, you can prevent being uncomfortable. Dri Fit or wicking material makes for the best base layer. It’s always a good idea to have a rain jacket and sweatshirt for warmth.
Bring the right kinds of sleeping covers
If you’re sleeping in a hammock or a tent, it’s important to have different covers. In a tent, a rain cover should always come with you. If you’re staying in a hammock, a rain cover and a mosquito or bug cover will protect you the most. These will help you be more comfortable on your trip.
Shoes, shoes, shoes
Because spring weather is so erratic, your terrain could be different than expected. Making sure you have solid hiking boots in case you hit mud or comfortable tennis shoes for dry land can make all the difference.
Give your gear a test run
If your gear has been stored away since the summer or fall, it’s a good idea to give it a test run to make sure everything is still working well. This will help prevent all easy mistakes during your longer trips.
Now that you have a few tips and tricks for spring backpacking, hopefully, you can be more prepared for your adventures. Get outside, go hiking, and...
Be well, Auburn.
