Summer Day Trips from Auburn, Alabama

Summer Day Trips from Auburn, Alabama

As someone who has lived in Alabama my whole life, I was pleasantly surprised at how many fun weekend trip options there were when I took the time to investigate.

The choices are endless! What better way to appreciate your home state and surrounding areas than by exploring what they have to offer? There are countless hidden gems under our noses just waiting to be discovered.

I’ve had the privilege of exploring all of these places and would recommend that you try and visit them as well!

Providence Canyon State Park

First on the list is a mini-Grand Canyon in the middle of West Georgia, a 1.5-hour drive from Auburn. With plenty of hiking options, this location offers beautiful views of the nine canyons and the distinct layers of colorful soil. After exploring the inner canyons, visitors also have the option to continue the loop trail to the other side of the canyon, which provides more sweeping views to enjoy.

Lake Martin & Smith Mountain

Lake Martin offers the perfect weekend escape! It includes popular attractions, such as boating, fishing, water skiing, golfing, and swimming recreation areas. A short 40-minute drive from Auburn, you can find me here on most Saturdays in the summer. There are also plenty of live entertainment and incredible dining options to end your day on the lake.

In addition, Smith Mountain is home to a number of beautiful hiking trails that snake in and out of the forest alongside Lake Martin. The Smith Mountain Fire Tower, a 0.4-mile hike, is the highest point on the lake, offering incredible views that are even more breathtaking at sunrise and sunset.

Atlanta, Georgia

Only a 2-hour drive from Auburn, Atlanta offers plenty of activities that can easily occupy your entire day here. The Georgia Aquarium, Ponce City Market, Piedmont Park, and BeltLine are some of the best things to do. The BeltLine offers many shops and restaurants connected by beautiful city trails where people can walk, run, or bike. In addition, several murals along the BeltLine are perfect for an Instagram-able picture that everyone will love.

30A/ Rosemary Beach Seaside, Florida

Rosemary Beach is the farthest destination from Auburn on this list, at a 3.5-hour drive.  30A is a strip of about 25 coastal miles in South Walton County, FL. The crystal-clear blue ocean water and soft white beaches make it one of the best in the US. An abundance of food and shopping options will make it a weekend getaway to remember!

Enjoy exploring!

Be well, Auburn.
