1. Blue Ridge, Georgia

○ Distance from Auburn: 3.25 hours

If you’re looking for the classic fall getaway at a convenient distance, Blue Ridge, Georgia is your place. The charm of the city makes for the perfect ambiance to relax and enjoy your vacation. In the downtown area, you will find lots of shopping, delicious food, coffee shops, and sweet treats. The area is not overwhelmed with tourists, and there are plenty of activities to do. If you prefer to stay in, rent a cabin in Blue Ridge with your favorite people and enjoy the fall foliage and mountains from the porch. Blue Ridge has one of four remaining drive-in theaters in GA. Other possibilities include hiking the Swinging Bridge on the Tocco, taking a train ride on the Scenic Railway, and visiting Mercier Orchards on your way back!

2. Cataloochee, North Carolina

○ Distance from Auburn: 4.5 hours

Check out Cataloochee, North Carolina to go skiing at an affordable price. Cataloochee Ski Resort has an elevation of 5,400 feet and is 10-15 degrees colder than the city. Their advanced snow-making machine covers 18 slopes and trails. Skiing without having to travel by plane makes it even more worth it! They offer everything you need to ski upon arrival, including tubes, skis, snowboards, pants, jackets, helmets, and more.

3. Jekyll Island, Georgia

The beach and the fall season are not usually associated together, however they actually are a great mix! There is nothing like watching a beach sunset in a sweatshirt and bike-riding through crisp air! This specific island is incredibly unique and feels like you’re on a different planet. The weather is not blazing hot, but still warm enough to enjoy the beach. There are also lower crowds at this time, creating a perfect environment for a refreshing getaway spot.

4. Savannah, Georgia

○ Distance from Auburn: 4.5 hours

Savannah is a historic area with a modern touch. The twenty-two historic squares are home to a variety of artists who bring a diverse culture to the city. The city market is the heart of Savannah that provides artists a space to share their work with others. Walk the cobblestone streets under the many Spanish moss-draped oak trees to experience the city’s charm. Regardless of what you do, being outside is where all of the action is. As if the city doesn't have enough, there is also Tybee Island to explore to top it off.

5. Asheville, North Carolina

○ Distance from Auburn: 5.5 hours

Asheville is artsy, has beautiful views, and despite many tourists, it still has a homey feel. There is a range of places to visit from bookstores, to coffee shops, thrift stores, and rooftop venues. As a bonus, Asheville is located in the mountains and offers various hiking trails and mountains to visit. It truly has something for everyone.

6. Rock Springs, Florida

○ Distance from Auburn: 6.5 hours

Rock Springs is a hidden oasis that branches off to many private areas. It is known as a natural lazy river where you can enjoy tubing, swimming, floating, and more! The water is crystal clear, and there are many hiking trails off of the river for you to discover. Register before you go and enjoy a secluded and unique experience!

7. Stone Mountain, Georgia

○ Distance from Auburn: 2 hours

Stone Mountain is 1,686 feet above sea level and 825 feet above the surrounding area. It is a natural phenomenon that will amaze you. Opt to hike or ride— regardless the view is amazing! The view will show you Atlanta’s skyline and other surrounding cities. This is ideal for a weekend trip, and you can visit in one day!

8. Stephens Gap Cave

○ Distance from Auburn: 3.5 hours

Stephens Gap Cave is a hidden gem in Alabama that will leave you in awe. You will need to fill out a quick and easy permit via the website to secure your spot. Once you arrive, hike the one-mile trail that will lead you to the cave. From there, you have two choices to get inside of the giant hole that is known as Stephen’s Gap. You can repel 150 feet into the water or hike down the hole to see inside the cave. After hiking, drive 20 minutes to Cathedral Caverns. This cavern has both the widest entrance and the largest stalagmite in the world. Cathedral Caverns has so much life as well as history, making it a must-see!

9. New Orleans, Louisiana

○ Distance from Auburn: 5 hours

New Orleans and Fall go together seamlessly. Usually, the streets are full of people, but Fall tends to have lower crowds. The weather is also comfortable enough to enjoy being outside for hours. If New Orleans is a place on your travel list, now is the time. Must-dos while in New Orleans include eating a beignet at Jackson Square, touring the French Market, walking in the Garden District and visiting the French quarter.

10. Providence State Park

○ Distance from Auburn: 1.3 hours from Auburn

Providence State Park is another hidden gem that is only 1 hour and 20 minutes away from Auburn, making it an ideal day-trip! It is said that Providence State Park is like a mini Grand Canyon. There are various forms of red and orange rock, and miles of hiking to sightsee. This hike could make for a great photo-shoot with a loved one!
