Seaside 5k: Race Recap & Training Journey

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to run the Seaside 5K. While I’ve run races in the past, it had been a while, and I wanted to approach this one differently.
My goal wasn’t just to show up and finish, I wanted to truly commit to my training, push myself, and see how much I could improve.
Training & Preparation
To stay on track, I followed a structured plan with specific training goals using the Runna app. This app helped me map out my running schedule, including which days to train, when to rest, and how to build endurance leading up to race day. Having a plan took the guesswork out of training and gave me a clear roadmap to follow.
One of the biggest challenges in training is staying consistent, especially when life gets busy or the weather isn’t ideal. That’s where my friends made all the difference. We all signed up for the race together, which meant we had to keep each other accountable. On days when it was freezing, raining, or I simply wasn’t in the mood to run, knowing my friends were also out there training kept me going. Having that shared goal made the process more fun and motivating.
The Power of Routine & Healthy Habits
One unexpected benefit of training was how it impacted my overall routine. Beyond just running, I started forming better habits like eating healthier, drinking more water, and stretching regularly. Running forced me to be more mindful of how I was fueling my body, and I noticed I had more energy and felt stronger overall.
Race Day & Takeaways
Race day itself was an incredible experience. The energy, the crowd, and the sense of accomplishment crossing the finish line made all the early morning runs and tough training days worth it. While I was proud of my time, I was even prouder of the discipline and effort I put into training.
This race reminded me why I love running. Not only for the physical challenge, but for the mental toughness it built. It’s proof that when you commit to something and show up for yourself, the results follow. Now, I’m already looking ahead to my next race and excited to see where this running journey takes me next!
If you’re considering signing up for a race but feel unsure, just go for it. Find a plan, get some friends on board, and take it one run at a time. The progress you make, both physically and mentally, will surprise you.
