Essential Oils: How "Essential" Are They?

What’s the hype with essential oils? You can find them in almost every home store, and diffusers can cost up to $100. 

So, what’s the big fuss? Should you invest in essential oils? Do they actually work? Look no further! I have been an essential oil junkie since high school and can attest to their greatness. Whether I need to focus or relax, my oils are always there for me. 


Do they really work?

Let’s start with the basic question…why?  Aromatherapy is a therapeutic way to target emotions. Essential oils help with anxiety or depression by relaxing and focusing the mind. Personally, I love to whip out my diffuser when I’m stressed or have to hyper-focus on my work. And to top it off, they can make any space smell great!

How do I use them?

Oils can be used in many ways: diffused, applied to the skin, added to a bath, or put in a spray bottle. When I have a stomachache or headache, I can always count on my scents to decrease the pain. I’ll either rub some on my stomach or on the back of my neck and wrists. Diffusers are perfect for even the pickiest of noses, because they subtlety circulate the smell all around your room. I like to diffuse lavender or use a stray bottle to sprinkle some on my pillow or sheets when I can’t sleep at night, and it knocks me out like a light.

How do I know when to use each one?

Different oils can be used for specific scenarios and can even be mixed to create new smells. This is especially fun because you’re basically making a little potion; you’ll probably feel like Harry Potter while you’re doing it. My personal favorite blend is three drops of eucalyptus, two drops of lavender, and one drop of tea tree. It’s rejuvenating and relaxing while also giving a cleansing feel. You can thank me later.
