A-Day Preview
A-Day, Auburn’s annual spring game, takes place on Saturday, April 6th at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
Lots of new talent will be on display as the Tigers bring in the #9 recruiting class in the country, including five-star receivers Cam Coleman and Perry Thompson.
Thompson, who originally committed to Alabama, flipped his commitment to Auburn after he visited the Plains for Big Cat Weekend in the summer of 2023. Coleman, originally committed to Texas A&M but switched to Auburn in December.
In addition to the pair of five-stars, four-star receivers Bryce Cain and Malcolm Simmons will join the Auburn squad for the 2024 season, giving Auburn one of the best wide receiver cores in the country.
With so much talent at the wide receiver position, the Tigers will need someone who throws the ball well. Auburn ranked 124th in the nation in passing yards per game last season, and dead last in the SEC. Quarterback Peyton Thorne returns for the Tigers, throwing for 16 touchdowns and 10 interceptions last season. Walker White, a four-star out of Little Rock Christian Academy in Arkansas, will join the quarterback line-up this season. White led the Warriors to the 6A state championship game his senior year, throwing for 2,660 yards and 29 touchdowns.
Derrick Nix, a former associate and wide receiver’s coach at Ole Miss, takes on the offensive coordinator position for the 2024 season. Nix worked with Hugh Freeze during his time at Ole Miss from 2012-2016.
Auburn also brings in a new defensive coordinator, DJ Durkin, from Texas A&M. Durkin, served as defensive coordinator for the Aggies for the last two seasons and has been successful at multiple SEC schools throughout his career, including Florida and Ole Miss.
Oklahoma and Texas’ addition to the SEC has shaken up Auburn’s typical SEC schedule. The Tigers will no longer play teams like LSU, Ole Miss, or Mississippi State every year. With one of the easiest schedules they’ve faced in years, Auburn has a great chance to improve their win total from last season.
It all starts this Saturday when Auburn takes the field for A-Day. Tickets are $10 to the general public and free to Auburn students, so be sure to show up and support the Tigers.
