Timely Tips
Take it from someone who is late to everything, time management is a valuable skill.
Time management is crucial for staying on top of classes, organizations, and jobs. It is a skill I still struggle with today, but fortunately, I have learned a few things that help me stay on task.
ALARMS
If you make plans with me, trust that I will have an alarm reminding me about them. Scratch that– I have alarms reminding me. Don't even get me started on how many I have set to wake me up in the morning. Alarms are a great way to help you remember to finish a task. It’s like peer pressure. The reminder will reappear until you have completed what you need to do. Just remember to hit snooze instead of stop, otherwise, you may forget all over again. Bonus points if you set the ringer to a song you hate.
Plan Ahead
If I don't have a game plan at least a day in advance, then I cannot promise I will arrive somewhere on time. Whether picking out my outfits, meal prepping my lunch, or making sure I have time to get a sweet treat, planning your day the night before is a great way to save time in the mornings. You never know what may come up in your day, so having some extra time can be a lifesaver.
Develop a Routine
Creating a routine is so beneficial for success. It’s all about making sure that your routine is consistent. Plan out a time set aside for completing assignments, cleaning, and even personal time to keep yourself on task, and make sure nothing falls under the rug. I like to schedule a study room in the library at the same time every week and force myself to lock in while I’m there. This consistency allows me to associate this time with work and helps me finish everything.
Time management is not just a skill– it's a necessity, especially for those who are fashionably late. These tips have proven to be effective strategies for keeping track of my commitments and responsibilities. By prioritizing our time, we can make the most of every single day!
Be well, Auburn!
